“Our Inner Sense”

"A Time To Reflect"

"A Time To Reflect"

I have always loved to travel and experience different places, other than the ones I usually frequent. My inner compass pointed to… the west coast… specifically Oregon. It offered many features that could be used in a photo shoot and also appealed to my inner vision. The surrounding landscape included sea stacks, cliffs, fog, and lots of water, to only mention a few of its spectacular views. An extensive tour of the coast included very expansive dunes, starfish and their intimate relationship with the water. I soon realized that a water theme was prevalent in most of my compositions. To create not just a static shot, I employed the use of long exposures which gave a sense of movement. One shot in particular required a lot of trial and error. The photo “Beached” came from my inability to stay on one subject for a long period time… it’s my “photo ADD moment”.  It started one evening while I was waiting for a spectacular sunset, which seemed to take forever to materialize. I had isolated my camera’s focus on a shell. The many challenges to this shot were…timing the movement of the water, the dwindling light, sinking tripod legs, and seagulls… who seemed to think it was the last morsel on earth. My wait was rewarded with one of my favorite compositions.

Throughout my travels in Oregon, from the rainforest’s, cliffs, harbors, and beaches, I truly felt a familiar bond. Although it was very different from my east coast origin, it shared something I was all to familiar with… water. My connection with the beach and its fluid beauty gave me a true sense of belonging. I was able to both relate and create yet not feel out-of-place. I encourage you to explore your inner senses… discover that common bond that can touch you regardless of time or place.

  4. Your photos never cease to amaze me. You’re very in tune with nature here and it shows. I spent a day on the highway next to the Oregon coastline and really enjoyed the scenery. I have to make it back sometime so that I can explore more. I love these shots, especially “Beached,” “A Time to Reflect,” and the purple sunset 🙂

Magnificent! The ocean always seems to move us emotionally. There is a sense of peace and an understanding that comes over us when we watch the rythm of the waves. You have captured those emottions in your photographs.
I always think your pictures that involvle nature are your best. My favorite is the sixth picture in the group. That photograph is intense.
